Nothing But Blue Skies
Published in Hardcover by Chronicle Books (April, 1999)
Author: Beth Nelson
Average review score:

Collaged Dada-ish Dreamscapes
In _Postcards From the Basque Country_, Beth Nelson introduced us to her totally random, sometimes image-saturated mind. It laid those images in front of us like an accidental scrapbook.

With these cards, she makes her collages mobile -- able to be sent through the magic of the postal service on to those who love and understand you. Personally, I kept them, and have plans to buy another set for sending. They're just that good.

For anyone who thinks in sort of non-linear patterns, who sees the beauty of a flying car or an old photograph, or who can appreciate art -- this is the card collection to pick up. Grab it quickly, and buy extras. I guarantee you'll need them.

Old Money: The Mythology of America's Upper Class
Published in Hardcover by Knopf (June, 1988)
Author: Nelson W., Jr. Aldrich
Average review score:

Wonderful......every American should read it.
Mr. Aldrich is an incredible thinker and writer. He objectively describes the various class structures in America and the values that accompany them. The book evinces that there is an inherent responsibility that goes along with financial success in this democratic society and what can result if there is an abrogation of that resonsibility. The book is written from a generous standpoint in that Mr. Aldrich genuinely shares himself with the reader. It is indeed "a gift" the "pietas" that Mr. Aldrich so eloquently describes.

One Day in the World of my Brilliant Mind
Published in Paperback by Xlibris Corporation (03 October, 2000)
Authors: Bobby Jack Nelson and W. Allen Mulholland
Average review score:

"Brilliant" is brilliant!
The deceptively simple, crisp, clear writing in this book never bogged down and held my interest like a magnet. The story I suppose is basically a satire. It is certainly humorous. But it is also the story of a very intelligent and serious mind, and in my estimation Bobby Jack Nelson is one of the best writers I have read. But he is also apparently not well known. Why? Perhaps because he is not "commercial". He's an artist.

One Foot on the Rockies: Women and Creativity in the Modern American West (Calvin P. Horn Lectures in Western History and Culture)
Published in Paperback by University of New Mexico Press (May, 1995)
Authors: Joan M. Jensen and Patricia Nelson Limerick
Average review score:

Finding a Voice in the West
A moving critical study on those silences that confronted women artists in the West, focusing on professional, non-professional, and traditional women artists' struggles to find voices and to cope with markets for their work. Jensen discusses several artists whose careers were shadowed or distorted by husbands, some of whom were themselves artists or collectors. She also treats extensively the history of a Native American basket maker's struggles with market forces, traditional cultural artmaking and art-using practices, discrimination, and family forces. Covering late pioneer days through the rise of Hollywood and spanning painting, photography, literature, dance, and crafts, the book surprised me with its concise and compelling portrayals of many societies and art worlds. Jensen communicates immediate and personal interpretations of the "lifeways" of silenced and near silenced women artists, as well as some who succeeded--at their great cost--in finding a voice.

The Oswald Chambers Daily Devotional Bible/New King James Version
Published in Hardcover by Thomas Nelson (October, 1992)
Authors: Oswald Chambers and Thomas Nelson Publishers
Average review score:

exceptional devotional
I have been reading this Bible through for 9 years and love it more each year. The insight into the Word from Oswald Chambers only enhances what the Holy Spirit shows us in the Word. Oswald Chambers loved Jesus Christ and listened so intently to the Holy Spirit as He spoke to him, that the devotionals placed before each day's reading only deepen the spiritual insight. How many books can you say that when you finish it on December 31, you can't wait to start reading it all over again on January 1?!!!

Authors: Stuart Dybek, Jim Ray Daniels, Bonnie Jo Campbell, Nancy Zafris, Larry Smith, and Andy Nelson
Average review score:

Literature about work that really works
This collection from Bottom Dog Press is excellent for anyone who's been looking for a good college-text to get students talking about literature and work. In these stories, students will find their fathers, mothers, uncles, aunts, and even themselves. Literature about work provides a rich opportunity for discussion and learning, and this book is definetely rich in its potential. Bret Comar's story is especially breath-taking.

The Overlook Martial Arts Reader: Classic Writings on Philosophy and Technique
Published in Paperback by Overlook Press (December, 1992)
Authors: Randy F. Nelson and Joseph Cardillo
Average review score:

A very informative book.
This book provides portions (usually a chapter) from the writings of martial artists. Some of the authors are founders of systems, such as Jigoro Kano and Gichin Funakoshi. I found many of the writings to be very insightful and they seemed to have more depth than many of the martial arts writings that you see today.
